Evangel-light Assemblies Of God Church was established in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, as a result of clear divine leading, prayerful obedience, and sacrificial partnership. The vision to plant the church was birthed through Rev. Dr (Mrs) Joy Chinenye Onyeonoro, an ordained minister of the Assemblies of God Nigeria, whose life and ministry have been marked by faithfulness, evangelism, and commitment to sound Pentecostal doctrine.
The journey towards establishing the church in Canada began unexpectedly. Pastor Joy did not initially intend to plant a church abroad. During a period of relocation to Canada to support her daughter, Barrister Rosemond Egbosi, circumstances aligned with God’s greater purpose. Barrister Rosemond Egbosi, a seasoned legal practitioner, studied Law at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, furthered her legal education in the United Kingdom, practiced law for over two decades, and later pursued a related legal program in Canada. Her professional transition provided the platform through which Pastor Joy relocated to Canada. While in Canada, Pastor Joy received repeated spiritual confirmations to establish a branch of the Assemblies of God Nigeria. Although she initially hesitated due to unfamiliar climate conditions, cultural adjustments, and the financial demands of church registration, God reaffirmed the mandate through prayer and counsel encouraged earlier by her District Superintendent, Rev. C.V Izuchukwu (PhD), she embraced the calling in faith.
The early days of Evangel-light Assemblies Of God Church began with online worship services conducted via Zoom, allowing believers to gather for prayer, teaching, and fellowship despite the absence of a physical worship space. As the congregation grew, the need for a permanent place of worship became evident. In God’s providence, a Kingdom partner was divinely connected to the vision. Ambassador Success Obioma Akagburuonye, a passionate Kingdom Investor with a burden for the expansion of the Assemblies of God presence in Canada, responded to the vision. He sponsored the registration and establishment of the church, provided funds for worship equipment, and paid four months’ rent for the church facility. Through his generosity, Evangel-light Assemblies Of God Church secured its worship location at 19 Greenfell Crescent, Suite 200 (2nd Floor), Nepean, Ottawa, Ontario.
The establishment phase of the church was further strengthened by the sacrificial service of Evangelist Gabriel, a Chartered Accountant by profession, who committed his time, skills, and expertise to support the administrative, financial, and organizational growth of the church. From its humble beginnings, Evangel-light Assemblies Of God Church has grown steadily into a recognized Pentecostal church in Ottawa, committed to prayer, sound doctrine, discipleship, and community impact. Today, the church stands as a testimony to God’s faithfulness, serving as a spiritual home for families, individuals, and believers from diverse backgrounds, and shining the light of Jesus Christ across Canada and beyond.
