From childhood, Rev. Dr. Joy Chinenye Onyeonoro demonstrated uncommon spiritual depth, marked by fervent prayer, healing grace, and prophetic insight. These gifts, evident early in life, affirmed a divine calling that has continued to shape her ministry across nations and generations.

Alongside her spiritual formation, Rev. Dr. Joy Chinenye Onyeonoro pursued excellence in professional and academic endeavors. She trained in nursing, public service, auditing, catering management, printing technology, and later obtained formal theological education at the Iperu Advanced School of Theology, where she earned both diploma and degree qualifications in Theology. Her studies encompassed sociology, psychology, conflict resolution, and Christian leadership—equipping her for balanced, people-centered, and Spirit-led ministry.

Her ministerial impact within the Assemblies of God Church in Nigeria was marked by powerful ministrations and evident manifestations of God’s grace. Recognized for the authenticity of her calling and fruitfulness in service, she was duly ordained and later established an evangelical ministry in obedience to divine instruction.

DIVINE PATHWAY TO CANADA AND THE BIRTH OF THE ASSEMBLIES OF GOD MINISTRY

Rev. Dr. Joy’s relocation to Canada occurred through a providential sequence involving her second daughter, Barrister Rosemond Egbosi, a seasoned legal practitioner with over two decades of professional experience. Barrister Egbosi studied Law at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, furthered her legal education in the United Kingdom, and practiced internationally. While working with a global organization that required intercontinental travel, she identified a related legal qualification in Canada, which eventually facilitated her permanent residence. As the organization also operates in Canada, she relocated and invited her mother to join her during this transition.

At the time, Rev. Dr. Joy Chinenye Onyeonoro had no initial intention to plant a church in Canada. However, prior to her departure, her District Superintendent, Rev C.V. Izuchukwu, PhD, advised her not to stay long abroad. In response, she remarked that if God granted grace for the establishment of an Assemblies of God church in Canada, it would be for His glory—a statement that later proved prophetic.

Upon arrival in Canada during the winter season, the severity of the climate caused her to reconsider. Yet, God persistently impressed upon her spirit the mandate to proceed. After prayerful discernment and discussions with her daughter, she began the necessary legal and administrative registrations required to establish the church—an undertaking that demanded significant financial resources.

By divine orchestration, God connected her with Ambassador Success Obioma Akagburuonye, a Kingdom investor deeply concerned about the absence of an Assemblies of God presence in Canada. Following a telephone conversation, he traveled from Toronto to Ottawa to meet her and committed himself to sponsoring the establishment of the church.

The ministry began with online (Zoom) services, but as the fellowship grew, members expressed the need for a physical place of worship. In response, Ambassador Akagburuonye encouraged the leadership to secure a location, assuring full support. Through God’s miraculous intervention, a suitable church facility was provided, fully equipped, with rent paid in advance—marking the official birth of the Evangel-Light Assemblies of God Church, Canada.

Rev. Dr. Joy Chinenye Onyeonoro also acknowledges the sacrificial support of Evangelist Gabriel, a Chartered Accountant by profession, whose dedication, time, and service have significantly contributed to the growth and stability of the church. The spiritual and financial support of Rev C.V. Izuchukwu, PhD was overwhelming.

LEADERSHIP, LEGACY, AND ONGOING IMPACT

Beyond ministry, Rev. Dr. Joy Chinenye Onyeonoro served in public leadership and governance for approximately two decades, demonstrating integrity, discipline, and servant leadership. At God’s instruction, she relinquished public office to fully return to the ministry to which she was called from birth.

Today, Rev. Dr. Joy Chinenye Onyeonoro stands as a respected spiritual mother, reformer, and pioneer whose leadership continues to strengthen the Evangel-Light Assemblies of God Church in Canada and beyond. Her life exemplifies steadfast faith, obedience to divine instruction, and unwavering commitment to advancing the Kingdom of God across nations.
